Chester Liberal Democrats have selected local businesswoman Elizabeth Jewkes as the challenger to Labour MP Christine Russell at the next General Election.

‘She is a very strong candidate who will make an excellent MP’ said Local Party Chair Paul Cheetham. ‘ We are very pleased to have someone of Elizabeth’s calibre standing for the party in Chester’.

Elizabeth has been a Lib Dem member for well over 20 years and first stood for parliament in 1992.

She is committed to involving more women in politics.

She lives in Ellesmere Port with her husband and two youngest children. She also has two older daughters. A keen environmentalist, she ran her own award winning ecological business for ten years. She is a Fair Trade campaigner and a keen supporter of the Stop The War coalition in its opposition to the Iraq War.
